At Vedanadam training centre, we consider outreach as one of important task
that lord Jesus has bestowed upon us. Acts 1:8 says "But you will receive
power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in
Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”
As Christ was given one mission by the Father, He in turn gives only one
mission to His Church. The Church exists in the world for the same ultimate
purpose for which Christ came-to reveal the glory of God to all men. This is
the Great Commission, the mission of the Church, to see God's glory declared
among the nations and to see His glory deposited into more and more disciples
who congregate in local assemblies among all nations; continuing to radiate
His glory to a dark world--until He comes again to extend His Kingdom and His
glory throughout the whole earth.
Several opportunities abound for us to witness. In fact, we have more witnessing opportunities than we know what to do with them. Because witnessing is a lifestyle and not a ministry, it means we can and should witness everywhere we go. In our sphere of influence: among our friends and relatives, at work, on the streets, at the mall, on the subway, in taxis, etc. Outreach is like learning a new language. Yes you may be a little uncomfortable when you first use it. But the more you use it the better you get at it. Conversely, if you don’t use it you lose it -- you lose the fire to witness verbally if you don’t practice. When we make outreach a lifestyle, we’ll see that several opportunities abound to witness. And when we see outreach as a lifestyle and not a ministry, we’ll not just go out and witness on Community Outreach Day. When we see outreach as a lifestyle, we’ll not just see a particular year as a year of outreach. When we see outreach as a lifestyle, we’ll see outreach as a mandate from Jesus Christ and not a man. When we see outreach as a lifestyle, outreach will be who we are and not just what we do.
